Johnson announces candidacy for District 35

Bismarck, ND — Bismarck resident Taylor Johnson has announced she is seeking the Democratic-NPL Party’s endorsement for District 35 of the state legislature at the party’s February 7 Region 6 District Convention in Bismarck.

Explaining her motivation to run for office, Johnson said, “As a public health professional, I’m appalled at the high cost of healthcare and the devastating impact it has on North Dakotans. I’m running to tackle this issue, along with other affordability concerns, as well as protecting and strengthening public schools, and bringing transparency and accountability to the state legislature.”

She said her educational and professional background has taught her the importance of taking an evidence-based approach to politics instead of a partisan one. “I bring a fresh perspective, an open mind, and a commitment to working tirelessly for the residents of North Dakota,” Johnson added.

If elected, Johnson’s goals focus on investing in North Dakota youth and the working class. Her top policy goals include guaranteeing paid maternity leave for public and private employees, temporarily subsidizing health insurance premiums for North Dakotans on ACA health plans to backfill lost ACA enhanced premium tax credits, and fully funding the ethics commission and requiring public access to investigation timelines and determinations.

Johnson currently works as a health care data analyst at the Human Services Research Institute, a mission-driven nonprofit that works to enhance social services and public health systems. She also volunteers with the North Dakota Human Rights Coalition and serves as the volunteer LGBTQ+ lead for the Bismarck chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America whose mission is to protect children and communities by reducing gun violence and encouraging responsible gun ownership.

Johnson has a Bachelor of Arts in public health studies from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Health Science in mental health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Johnson lives in her hometown of Bismarck with her partner Dan Doherty.
