Horneman announces candidacy for District 7

Bismarck, NDBismarck resident Kevin Horneman has announced he is seeking the Democratic-NPL Party’s endorsement for senate for District 7 of the state legislature at the party’s February 7 Region 6 District Convention in Bismarck.

I like to stand up for the regular people like me,” Horneman said as to what motivated him to run for office, “and it bothers me that so many people work for such low wages and no benefits while large companies and megacorporations grow obscenely wealthy off the backs of their workers.”

Horneman also said food safety, food quality, protecting the 2nd Amendment, and improving the investment in the state’s citizens’ post-secondary education are issues he is passionate about.

“State government can be made to work in such a way to represent and enrich the lives of all the people,” he said. “For example, there could be more incentives to help with affordability and access for drivers to earn their Commercial Drivers License and for healthcare workers to advance in their careers. The country is short 80,000 CDL drivers and diesel mechanics and we have a shortage of healthcare workers in the state, particularly for the rural hospitals and clinics. That could mean the state providing affordable schooling to help create more CDL drivers and diesel mechanic and also providing Certified Nursing Assistants resources to become Licensed Practical Nurses, LPNs to become Registered Nurses, RNs to become Nurse Practitioners, and NPs to become doctors. We need to do more to promote and expand healthcare schooling assistance from the state that comes with a caveat they have to serve in a rural community for 2-3 years.”

Horneman has been a North Dakota resident for the past 20 years, 18 of those in Bismarck. He retired as a licensed journeyman electrician as a 40-year member in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Currently, with his wife Nancy, he owns and operates a certified organic farm in northern Burleigh County, along with possessing state licensing in real estate and all insurance lines.

Horneman completed coursework in aviation at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona, Fla., in electrical engineering at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa., and in financial planning at Widener University in Chester, Pa. He also earned a Labor Management Certificate at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pa.

He is married to Nancy Horneman and they have three adult children and four grandchildren living in Bismarck and attending Bismarck Public Schools.
